Day 1: Kilimanjaro Airport to Moshi Upon your arrival at the airport, a driver will be waiting to transport you to your hotel. At the hotel, you will receive an orientation about the trek, including a comprehensive gear inspection. Your guides will also be available to address any additional questions or concerns you may have.
Day 2: Moshi to Miriakamba Hut The expedition begins with a morning drive from Moshi to Arusha National Park, approximately one hour away. The park boasts diverse and vibrant vegetation, and it has even served as the backdrop for famous films like "Hatari!" starring Hardy Kruger and John Wayne. After completing the necessary park formalities, your trek will commence near the Ngarenanyuki River. Accompanied by an armed ranger and professional mountain guide, you'll encounter a variety of wildlife such as buffalo, waterbucks, giraffes, warthogs, zebras, and gazelles. Your guide will also help you identify the different bird species. While leopards and elephants are more elusive, there is a possibility of spotting them. You'll spend the night and enjoy a delicious dinner at the Miriakamba Hut.
Day 3: Miriakamba Hut to Saddle Hut Start the day with a nourishing breakfast before embarking on a steep path towards the Saddle Hut. Upon reaching the hut, you have the option to complete the trek to Little Meru. After returning to the Saddle Hut, dinner will be served. As you will wake up at midnight for the summit hike, it is advisable to rest shortly after dinner.
Day 4: Saddle Hut to Miriakamba Hut The Mount Meru summit ascent begins around midnight, guided by the light of your headlamp. Climbing to the peak is the most challenging part of the trek, as the high altitude adds to the difficulty. Once you reach the summit, take the opportunity to capture photos and gather your thoughts. The descent offers mesmerizing views of lush mountains and vibrant landscapes. After a leisurely lunch at the Saddle Hut, continue the trek for about two hours until you reach the Miriakamba Hut, where you will spend the night.
Day 5: Miriakamba Hut to Momela Gate to Moshi Enjoy a hearty breakfast at the camp before embarking on the final part of the trek. This leg takes you through Meru's enchanting cloud forest, evoking images from a whimsical novel. Exercise caution on the slippery sections of the steep incline towards the Momela Gate. At the gate, you'll have the opportunity to purchase sodas and Mount Meru trekking t-shirts. From there, a vehicle from Viva Africa Tours will transport you back to your starting point.
